Padd Energy: 2020 in Numbers

In a year that has brought many challenges and uncertainties, 2020 has also seen some positive progress towards global decarbonisation.

The number of businesses making Net Zero commitments has more than trebled this year,  governments around the world have identified new Net Zero goals and both banks and large corporations are taking Environmental Social Governance (ESG) seriously when making investment decisions.

Against this backdrop of progress towards a Net Zero world, 2020 has seen Padd Energy invest significantly in its own business and extend its reach globally as a trusted Net Zero strategist.

Organisational growth

Over the past year we have completed the refurbishment of our Harrogate office and opened two new sites in Glasgow and London in response to client demand.

We have recruited four additional members of the Padd Energy team, all of whom have experience of working internationally. These highly experienced engineers bring with them a deep knowledge of decarbonisation feasibility, planning, technology and delivery to strengthen the expertise already within the Padd team.

Our inward investment will support the expansion of our work to provide proactive and practical consultancy to large organisations with a global presence.

Net Zero Impact

This year we have helped our clients tackle over 60m tonnes of CO2 and we have been consulted on over 20 tWh of global energy use. These figures demonstrate that Padd Energy is a business that helps organisations take Net Zero from concept to implementation, making a real and measurable difference to the planet and progress towards their decarbonisation goals.

In addition to our global consultancy work, we have been involved in some exciting UK-based projects including a Net Zero study for a university in the North of England and planning and delivery of a District Heating Network extension for a Scottish university.

Our longstanding expertise in the energy sector means that we are well-placed to support major decentralised energy contractors and energy service companies and work closely with well-known names in these fields.

Global Reach

With more large corporates moving decarbonisation up the agenda, the demand for global Net Zero strategies is set to continue to rise. In 2020 we have supported three blue chip clients to develop their decarbonisation roadmaps, encompassing 155 global manufacturing sites.

Our emphasis on detailed, site specific planning with fully costed and evaluated options is proving attractive to organisations that are seeking a partner to help them make genuine progress towards meeting their Net Zero commitments.

Technical expertise

Padd Energy has built up a strong reputation for technical expertise and straightforward strategic consultancy which is aimed at generating results rather than simply producing reports. Thanks to this, we have significantly increased our transaction services for renewables, thermal and district heating assets.

During the past year we have won several new district heating projects and a number of technical due diligence projects, many of which have come through existing clients and referrals.

We have secured two global Net Zero strategies, in the automotive and food and drink sectors, and are supporting a number of global engineering and infrastructure consultancies with specific elements of some of their ongoing projects.

Through our work with public and private sector organisations, consultancies and our involvement in programmes such as the BEIS funded Modern Energy Partners (MEP) programme, we are proud to be helping the UK deliver its Net Zero aims.

Looking ahead to the future

No-one can deny that 2020 threw many corporate environmental strategies off course. With so many challenges to deal with, we are pleased that progress towards Net Zero has still been made this year and that our business has continued to grow and plan for the future.

Looking ahead, we expect to expand our global Net Zero strategy business with corporates as they wrestle with how to deliver decarbonisation. We also intend to expand our team further to meet a growing demand for our services. We will be looking to appoint highly qualified and experienced engineers with an understanding of how the local energy mix in different geopolitical locations impacts on an organisation’s global energy strategy.
